Following some tests started in 1989, the first public cards, provided by Landis & Gyr, were marketed in 1991. It was a series of 4 cards, of which the values of 50 baht (circulation 241,044) and 100 baht (250,000) were issued in April, followed by 25 baht (60,000, issued in July) and 200 baht (59,250, issued in August.) The first real issue, however, is actually a version of the value of 50 units printed in darker shades, tending to gray. 22,000 copies were printed before being reprinted with the correct colors.
