Kiribati is an independent republic comprising the Gilbert, Phoenix and Line groups of islands, approximately halfway between Hawaii and Australia.
About thirty public telephones, working with chip cards, were installed by the national company Telecom Services Kiribati Ltd (TSKL) at the end of the last century in some islands of the archipelago, mainly in Tarawa. For the occasion, a series of four values was issued depicting islanders in traditional clothing: $ 5, $ 10, $ 20 and $ 50. The face value was expressed in the local currency, the Kiribati dollar.
