For several years, the only existing phonecards in Jordan were magnetic cards, issued by the Telecommunication Corporation and used for a field test of a public telephone system. The values were three (100, 500 and 1000 units), and were contained in a sealed paper bag, so to see them it was necessary to break the sachet. The trial was not successful, and only in 1998 new cards were issued: these are chip cards, put on the market in large quantities by the two telephone companies operating in the country.
