The new public cardphone service was officially launched by Estonian Telephone Company Ltd. in 1993, with an issue of a series of 8 Alcatel cards, each of them in four values (A, B, C, and D) which reported on the on the back the words “Esimene partii, 1993” (first issue). The same 32 cards were later reprinted in January 1994, but without this wording. In reality, however, a few months earlier, starting from February, a public field trial had been carried out, for which 8 illustrated cards were provided by Alcatel, with generic subjects also used for other trials. Each of these cards was supplied in two values (A and B) and different print runs.
