The Bahamas are an island state of Central America, a coral archipelago of 700 islands, only 30 of them inhabited, in the Atlantic Ocean a few kilometers from Miami and Cuba. Public telephones, installed in 1992, used cards with Gemplus chips and the first of these, with a circulation of 25,000 copies and a face value of $ 10 (Bahamian dollar), celebrated 100 years of telecommunications and reproduced the logo of Batelco, the most important local telecommunications company, which in 2002 changed its name to BTC.
