Before switching to the magnetic system of GPT cards, Cable & Wireless, the telephone operator on Ascension Island, had installed public telephones in 1985 using magnetic cards supplied by Autelca. The cards issued, of the same type used in the same period in different Caribbean islands, were 4 values: 17, 50, 100 and 200 units. The Ascension cards could be distinguished by the serial number that was prefixed by the letter A.
